The House Of Memory
10/04/20 - A Buford P. Wallaby song from "Captain Ambivalent Is In Denial" virtual Elgin Fringe Festival show.

Take a right at the light where they tore the drugstore down
Past the strip mall where the horse farm used to be
Down the wide divided highway that was once a country road
And you’ll come to the House of Memory

The House of Memory is old, its walls are full of holes,
And the floors are full of broken dreams and promises
But there will come a day when you sweep it all away
Hide the walls behind another coat of paint

Take a left at the shop where the streetcar used to stop
Past the new mall where the old mall used to be
Down the rows of mini-mansions that were once the rows of corn
And you’ll come to the House of Memory

The House of Memory is old, its walls are full of holes,
And the floors are full of broken dreams and promises
But there will come a day when you sweep it all away
Hide the walls behind another coat of paint

And now it’s so posh, thanks to whitewash
Applied by people just like me
Things keep changin, I keep ragin,
“That’s not how it used to be”

Take the roundabout right that was once a traffic light
Past the old mall where the new mall used to be
When you finally find a landscape that is mostly make-believe
You have come to the House of Memory
