High School Enemies

05/01/06 - Another one literally true.

In a crowd the other day
Saw a guy I half remembered
I could not think of his name
But his face was so familiar

Glad to see you, been a while
Where is it I know you from
We spend half an hour retracing our lives
Suddenly it hit me

That we were enemies in high school
He played my sister and her friend
The girl I had the biggest crush on
I swore someday I’d get revenge

What an awkward thing to think of
Halfway through a conversation

As the moment froze in time
Through the ice I could see clearly
All the ways I could decide
Among the paths that lay before me

Make a statement, make a stand
Make an insinuation
Make a scene or make demands
Or stage an angry confrontation

Cause we were enemies in high school
He played my sister and her friend
The girl I had the biggest crush on
I swore someday I’d get revenge

But by then it was too late
We’d spent half an hour as friendly
And a history of hate
Was thwarted by a faulty memory

If suddenly I hit reverse
It would only look insane
Split personality or worse
I’d better just forget again

That we were enemies in high school
He played my sister and her friend
The girl I had the biggest crush on
I swore someday I’d get revenge

I guess this song is my revenge
